Generating a capability statement
A capability statement is a one-page document a contracting officer asks for when they want to know who you are. RFI Hawk drafts yours from your profile and your past performance.
Steps
-
From the dashboard, click Capability Statements.
-
Click Generate New Capability Statement.
-
Confirm the inputs:
- Business profile (auto-filled)
- Top three past performance entries to feature
- Top NAICS codes
- Set-aside certifications to display
-
Contact information
-
Click Generate. The draft appears in about 30 seconds.

-
Review the draft. Edit any field. Re-generate the page if you change a major input.
-
Export to PDF. Save the PDF locally and email it to contracting officers.
What makes a strong capability statement
- A clear one-line description of what your business does
- Three concrete past performance examples with specific numbers
- Your NAICS codes and certifications
- Contact information including a UEI (federal Unique Entity Identifier) if you have one
- One page, not two
What to do if it does not work
If the draft is missing past performance, you have not added any. Add at least two from the Past Performance Library.
If the layout is wrong on export, the draft may have formatting from a paste. Click Reset Layout and try again.
